One of the urgent challenges in South Africa is the need to address social disparities. Economic growth is seen as a way to do this but it is taking place with little to no regard for the environmental impacts. The development of new protected areas is a key intervention in addressing biodiversity loss, yet we need to ensure that these protected areas remain relevant within this economically-driven landscape.

All welcome. Entrance, including tea and snacks afterwards, is free for BotSoc members and students with cards and R40 for visitors.

RSVP for catering purposes by 16 July to email: botsoc-kzn@mweb.co.za, 031 201 5111 or 071 869 3693.
