Story competition for primary school learners
Celebrate the life of an elder person by writing a short story.
THE Association for the Aged (Tafta) is hosting a schools writing and multimedia competition, for primary schools in the Durban region to commemorate the organisation’s 60th birthday.
Winning entries are eligible to win electronic gadgets such as laptops and tablets sponsored by MicroDivision and Windermere Shopping Centre.
The #TaftaTellMyStory competition, is open to all Durban primary schools and invites learners to ‘Celebrate the life of an elder person’ through the writing of short stories or artwork.
“Through the celebrating the life of an elder person theme, we are encouraging children to begin opening the lines of communication between their own and the older generations with a view to breaking down the generational gap, and encouraging value-based relationships of respect, care, compassion between elders and children of society. By calling on these young learners to first interview an elder in their lives before putting together their submissions, we believe communication lines will at least be opened between the elder and young person,” Tafta CEO Femada Shamam said.
Participating schools have until the end of September to submit entries to Tafta and winners will be announced at a mall exhibition of the finalists’ work at Windermere Centre in November this year.
