Community support uplifts Rusty

On Saturday, 22 September from noon to 2pm, Tarryn Coetzee will be with Rusty at Windermere Centre parking lot to collect donations.

A COLLECTION point for donations for local beggar Rusy Dewinnaar will be set up at Windermere Centre on Saturday, 22 September from noon to 2pm. Tarryn Coetzee, who is the driving force behind rallying community support for Dewinnaar will join him at Windermere Centre parking lot, at the entrance on Ninth Avenue under the admin block below Windermere Library, to accept donations the community has so generously offered.

According to Coetzee, many people have contacted her and offered items for Rusty which she is unable to collect.

“This is the perfect opportunity to donate to Rusty and his cause. Rusty helps many people in his area and is looking for clothing, blankets, shoes, sanitary items, stationery, cleaning products, food and anything that can help uplift these people,” she said. She asked that no furniture be brought, only items that can be carried.

Items on Rusty’s wish list include an iron and ironing board, toiletries, Dettol soap, Domestos to clean his apartment, skin moisturisers, as chemo and radiation has dried his skin, a pre-loved smart phone to take videos and pictures of the people he is working with to post online to help create awareness of the reality of the city of Durban, data, and fishing gear so he can go fishing at night to help make extra money.

Rusty said he would also appreciate contact from anyone who could offer him a job as a caretaker, maintenance manager or handyman, as he is a qualified shop fitter.
