We will remember them

THE communities of Pinetown and surrounding boroughs of eThekwini, MOTHS and the public are invited to the Wayside Cross Yearly Remembrance Ceremony at Pinetown Library Park on Sunday, 4 November at 2pm.

The Wayside Cross was erected in 1928 by the community. This calendar highlight pays tribute to members of all uniformed and essential services of Pinetown and surrounding boroughs of eThekwini, who gave their lives in protection and service over the last 90 years for the community and country.

Emphasising that the ceremony does not compete with any Military Remembrance Parade, this event is to encourage uniformed services to embrace and evolve their traditions.

“Tradition is a living thing and must evolve and serve the needs of organisations. The ceremony embraces individual service traditions and preserves the dignity and discipline commensurate with a ceremony of this significance,” said MOTH Grant Gregan, Old Bill from Better ‘Ole Shellhole, Pinetown.

This year in recognition of their ongoing dedication and charitable sacrifice to help all those in need through ‘Mutual Help, True Comradeship and Sound Memory’ over the past 91 years, the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH) of the Better ‘Ole Shellhole will stand proudly to attention as Guard of Honour and Sentries for the duration of this year’s Wayside Cross Remembrance Ceremony.

All services, MOTHS, MVOs and the public are encouraged to support and attend.
