LIFE Entabeni Hospital celebrates disability

LIFE Entabeni Hospital celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 7 December by inviting families of patients to attend a march around the perimeter of the hospital.
Patients held up posters and with a police escort pushed themselves in their wheelchairs proudly around the hospital.
A number of inspirational speakers were organised to give motivational talks to the patients and the day ended with a demonstration of basketball skills by two wheelchair basketball players.

The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on 3 December, and aims to promote an understanding of disability issues, the rights of persons with disabilities and gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities.
In South Africa, 3 December also marks the end of the National Disability Rights Awareness Month which is observed annually between 3 November and 3 December.
