Ecobricks for charity

School does its bit to save the environment.

DURBAN Preparatory High School boys and their families channeled their energies into building ecobricks for charity recently.

An ecobrick is made up of a large plastic bottle which is packed full of un-recyclable material like sweet wrappers, balloons, straws and chip packets. This method represents a zero waste system and greatly reduces the waste that ends up in landfills.

The bricks are well-insulated and resistant to harsh environmental conditions. It takes a lot of time and effort and lots of unwanted plastic. Once full, the ecobricks are used to build sustainable homes, schools and furniture.

The DPHS ecobricks were donated to PnP Hyper where they were collected and distributed to the Endangered Wildlife Trust.
