BEREA Mail spoke to matriculants at their schools on Friday to get their opinions on their final year of school.
Learners expressed how they felt about their final exam results as well as what they are planning to do this year.
They gave advice to this year’s matrics as well as their feelings on what they would’ve changed about their matric year if they could do it over again.
Durban Girls’ High School matriculant, Caitlyn Nash, said she was extremely happy with her results. She achieved two distinctions. “I think I did brilliantly! I urge matriculants to study hard,” she said.
Glenwood High School’s Lee Misra achieved five As and said he would be sending some for remarking. “I will be studying acturial science at UCT. I advise matriculants to work hard off the line, from day one, to achieve good results,” he said.
Durban High School matriculant Bhaveer Hargovind achieved three As and will also be submitting a few for remarking. He will be studying digital art engineering at Wits this year.
“If I could change anything about my matric year, I would’ve worked more on subjects I could’ve done better in. My advice is to work hard from Grade 8 as it is the foundation,” he said.
Durban Girls’ High School’s Celyn Samuels achieved two As.
“I was pretty anxious to get my results but I’m okay now. I’m still going to get to where I’m headed with these marks,” she said, adding she would be studying Business Science at UCT. “If I had to change anything about my matric year, it would be to stress less,” she said.
Durban High School’s Cohen Naidoo achieved two As and will be sending two subjects for remarking in the hopes of achieving another two distinctions. He said he has been accepted to study Pharmacy at Wits and is waiting to hear if he has been accepted to study medicine.
“My advice to matriculants is to study from the beginning, never give up and always put God first,” he said.
Durban Girls’ High School’s Angelina Williams achieved five distinctions in her final examinations. She plans on studying law this year. “I am very excited about my results! I didn’t expect these marks so I’m quite shocked, but I worked very hard. My advice for the 2019 matrics would be to pay attention in class and take good notes to revise for exams.”
Glenwood High School matriculant Keegan Govender said he was ‘okay’ with his results. “I will be sending some for remarks as I am not happy with a few results. I am going to be studying a BComm Accounting at either UKZN or Pretoria this year,” he said. Keegan said if he could change anything about his matric year it would be to put in a lot more work and manage time better during exams.
Sridhar Chandraduth from Durban High School said he was very nervous to find out his results the night before they were released, but that he was happy the wait was over. He achieved two distinctions. He will pursuing a BComm Accounting degree at UKZN.
“My advice to matrics is to be organised, get enough rest and to be positive and confident and not stressed,” he said.
