Police say ‘no’ to domestic violence

UMBILO SAPS is investigating a case of domestic violence in the Umbilo area.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula, on 6 March a woman reported a case of domestic violence at the station.

“According to the complainant, her husband accused her of cheating on him and threatened to kill her. The station commander of Umbilo, Col John Romer, says such threats, especially against women, will be dealt with very seriously. We urge the community to report all domestic related crimes as soon as possible,” she said. The case is under investigation.

Arrests in UKZN protest action

TWO students were arrested for public violence on 7 March at UKZN.

Makaula said at about 12.30pm on 7 March, students who were protesting on the campus became aggressive as management failed to address them.

No injuries were reported and there was slight damage to one private motor vehicle.

Good success for SAPS

A MAN was arrested for attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 11 March.

Capt Makaula said at around 9am, Umbilo officers responded to information of armed suspects near a tea-room on John Geekie Road, Glenmore.

“The suspects drew out firearms upon seeing the police van and started shooting at the police while running away in different directions. The police managed to arrest one suspect who was found in possession of a pistol and live ammunition,” she said.

None of the officers were injured, however the suspect sustained a minor injury while he was trying to run away.
