Keep your thoughts positive
Speakers at the Robin Hood Foundation's #I'mStayingPositive event provided tools needed to maintain a positive, optimistic outlook in 2020.
THE Robin Hood Foundation hosted an #ImStayingPositive” event the Barnyard Theatre, Suncoast, where guests were encouraged to stay positive about their lives, even when they felt the world was spinning out of control.
Speaking at the event, Cindy Norcott, founder of the Robin Hood Foundation, shared tips on how to be positive and encouraged guests to filter negative news which did not affect them.
“People give away their power when they moan and worry, but to be powerful and positive people we need to find solutions. Try to be a solution provider, and be entitlement free. Do something, have a plan in place and you will grow,” she said.
Cindy encouraged guests to live by faith, not by fear. “Be generous and empathetic, and keep calm. I think the most important thing when it comes to having positivity is to have a sense of humour,” she said.
Guest speaker Grant Gavin spoke on his topic of ‘thoughtonomy’ and gave tips on how to change thought patterns to influence positiveness.
“You have between 16 and 60 000 thoughts each day. The US National Science Foundation research revealed that of these, 85 per cent were negative. I have come up with the word thoughtonomy which I define as the right to self govern or control your own thoughts, to be able to live a life of fulfilled potential. The things that hold us back all start in the mind,” he said.
Grant suggested to guests that to be able to change this, they could try different things each day. He said people should have a love affair with themselves, put themselves first by finding time to be alone and do whatever rekindles their soul and makes them feel alive.
“Another tip is to escape your emotions. Successful people realise things happen and look for the meaning and the lesson in these things that shape our destiny. We need to learn to control our emotions and accept every moment as a choice,” he said.
Grant urged people to ‘stay in their lane’ and not to compare themselves to other people, and to block out the ‘noise’ from other people and the media.
“People are attracted to negativity but we are not going to be happy and positive about the country and our lives if we have negative thoughts. We need to take back our power, start controlling our thoughts and remove the negative, as this is the key to unlock our greatness,” he said.
