“It’s donations from the public that enable Tafta to deliver Meals on Wheels to elders – whether or not they can afford to pay for them. It costs us just R40 to deliver a nutritious two course meal to a pensioner’s door, but multiply that by the 2 000 meals we provide every month and it adds up to a massive R80 000 to keep this service going,” said Femada Shamam, Chief Executive Officer for Tafta.
The public is urged to consider making a donation of R200 to cover a week’s worth of Meals on Wheels for one elder.
If you can donate R800, you’ll ensure that a pensioner can count on a nutritious meal every weekday for a month.
“You can imagine what that means to someone who’s struggling to make ends meet,” said Femada.
