Another title for Musgrave model
Nkululeko, (26), a qualified PR practitioner, professional model with Boss Models, influencer and emerging events planner, first started taking part in pageants in 2014.
FOLLOWING on from his success at the Mr International South Africa pageant in June last year where he took the title, Musgrave model, Nkululeko Mbatha recently won the Face of Oxy SA competition.
Nkululeko, (26), a qualified PR practitioner, professional model with Boss Models, influencer and emerging events planner, first started taking part in pageants in 2014, something he never thought he would do!
Since then he has done various modelling events and was Mr DUT in 2016. He went on to represent at Mr SA Campus 2017 and was placed first runner-up.
After signing with Boss Models he decided to take the next step forward and enter the Mr International SA pageant, which he ended up winning.
“I heard about the Face of Oxy SA competition in 2018 but I didn’t make the first cut. I saw the poster last year but missed the closing by a few hours, so I used the time to find out more about the competition. This year I thought I would try again! We had to submit our entries online and I had my strategy and was more than ready when the competition opened. My friends were very excited for me but I was scared I wouldn’t make it again. My motto is to be positive, so I had to be!”

Nkululeko said the announcement for the finalists was two hours late, and he was more than stressed out.
“I was scrolling on Instagram and it kept buffering but I could see my face! I was excited I had made it this time and just took it one day at a time, and decided to be open-minded, if it was meant to be it would be. I executed my plan and was more than satisfied I had done okay, and I had to trust God,” he said.
Nkululeko had the support of his online friends and family and said he was grateful to have so many people behind him. He received the message to say he had won, and couldn’t believe his eyes!
“I rubbed my eyes and opened them to read again, just to make sure! It is great to be affiliated to such a big brand. I have been given this platform and aim to use it well,” he said.
Nkululeko said he aims to grow and brand himself, and wants to be someone the youth could relate to.
“Growing up in a rural area you get the mindset that there are things that you aren’t entitled to do, but this is wrong and I want to go far in my life. I also look forward to going to represent South Africa at the Mr International pageant in the Philippines. This was supposed to be in February, but was put on hold due to the virus,” he said.
