Berea police nab suspects with unlicensed guns, incorrect number plates
During the search, police found two firearms hidden under the seats.
BEREA SAPS arrested several suspects who were travelling in a vehicle with incorrect number plates. While searching the vehicle, during a patrol last week, SAPS also recovered two firearms.
Spokesperson for the Berea SAPS, Captain Poobalan Naidoo said officers were patrolling on Windermere Road when they noticed a suspicious vehicle.
Five occupants were travelling in the VW Polo with NP plates.

“Members followed the vehicle and stopped them in Springfield Park before North Coast Road. The disc on the vehicle did not match the number plates and when a member searched the vehicle, he found two firearms, one under the back seat and one under the driver’s seat of the vehicle,” said Naidoo.

“The serial number on the second firearm was filed off. Members immediately informed the suspects of the charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and they were detained at Berea SAPS. The vehicle was also impounded,” added Naidoo.
