LGE 2026: Berea election tally shows major DA gains

The Electoral Commission will announce the final results for the Local Government Elections on Sunday, November 8.

THE counting of ballots for the Local Government Election has been completed at the voting stations in the Berea Mail area.

Pending the official announcement by the Electoral Commission on Sunday, the numbers project a landslide win for the DA.

Ntombifuthi Msimang, IEC Provincial Officer, mentioned that the political party agents at the voting stations always know the results tally, because they have to send the results slips to the IEC.

In Ward 26, the DA won by a 300-vote margin against the newcomer, MKP, whereas in Ward 27 the latter retained power.

The MKP snatched Ward 28 from the ANC, while Ward 30, 31 and 33 were retained by the DA. Former ANC stronghold, Ward 32, slid into the MKP.

The rest of eThekwini is on a snail pace in terms of completing the counting because, according to Msimang, “the delays are due to the size of the municipality, which is the biggest in the province. The delays are not an anomaly, it’s all due to logistics. It’s always the last to finish”.

Msimang confirmed that the Commission was on track for Sunday’s official announcement of results, which will be followed by the publishing and allocation of council seats in seven days.

Before completion of counting, there is a window open for lodged objections by political parties.
