The policeman was stationed at the Durban Metropolitan Police headquarters. The couple's identities have not been released.

A DURBAN Metro Police officer (45), attached to the VIP Unit in Durban, is alleged to have killed his 40-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself, at their home, on Thokozani Nene Road, in Illovu.

The spokesperson of the metro police, Boysie Zungu, confirmed the incident this morning. Zungu said the incident occurred on Sunday night (April 14).

He added that the couple’s 19-year-old son was also injured after he tried to intervene.

Zungu said the South African Police Service is investigating a case of murder.

“We can confirm the tragic incident of one of our metro cops, stationed at the Durban Metropolitan Police Headquarters, 16 Archie Gumede Place, under the VIP Unit. The SAPS is investigating a case of murder,” said Zungu.

According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, official spokesperson of the SAPS in KZN, “Police have opened cases of murder, attempted murder and inquest following a shooting incident in which a 45-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his 40-year-old wife and shot and injured his 19-year-old son before turning the gun on himself in the Illovu area. When police arrived at the crime scene on Thokozani Nene Road, the two bodies were found lying on the floor and were declared deceased at the scene. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage,” said Netshiunda

The identity of the deceased is withheld until the family is notified.

The incident comes just two weeks after Durban Metro Police Officer Constable Sizwe Clinton Ngema is alleged to have murdered his 27-year-old girlfriend, Bianca Khuzwayo, at their Joseph Nduli Street flat in Durban. Khuzwayo’s final moments of life were shared widely on social media.
