A 19-YEAR-OLD suspect is among the nine accused set to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court to face charges of extortion, murder and armed robbery following their arrest in Glenmore, Umbilo, on Tuesday, October 15.

The wanted suspects were arrested on Grundel Road in Glenmore by SAPS members of Operation Vala UMgodi. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police received information on the suspects’ location in Umbilo and pounced on them.

He said, “Police conducted an intelligence-driven operation and investigations which led them to a residence on Grundel Road in Glenmore, Umbilo. The operation resulted in the arrest of nine suspects, aged between 19 and 40 years old. The suspects are believed to be involved in extortion, murder, armed robberies and drug-related activities in the eThekwini District.”

During the raid, police recovered two pistols, a rifle magazine and 173 rounds of ammunition of various calibre of firearms as well as drugs.
