The world-renowned African jazz player and conductor, Sibusiso 'Mash' Mashiloane, is offering a preview of his upcoming album to Durban fans.
IN anticipation of his much-awaited live recording of Isigqi in Switzerland, acclaimed South African pianist and composer Sibusiso ‘Mash’ Mashiloane is set to offer exclusive prelude performances with two intimate concerts in Cape Town and Durban. These events will immerse audiences in the rhythmic soul of Isigqi, giving a preview of the album before it is recorded live at the iconic Bird’s Eye in Basel, Switzerland, in December.
Mash is known to be both a virtuoso player and conductor with his live performances being the drawing card that has garnered him audiences worldwide. He is an integral performer of African jazz music and has built an enthusiastic fan base while touring South Africa, USA, Mozambique and Tanzania.
He has a Masters in Jazz Performance, graduated Cum Laude from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is a university lecturer. He is currently working on his PhD.
The first local concert will take place at Athletic Club & Social in Cape Town on Friday, October 25, followed by a second one at The Chairman, Durban, on Sunday, November 3. Both concerts will explore the foundational elements of Isigqi, an album that pays tribute to the people, landscapes and memories that have shaped Mashiloane’s identity and music.

“I see Isigqi as a tribute to the individuals and communities whose lived experiences have profoundly influenced my music. It’s not just about sound – it’s about the heart, spirit and beat of the people.
“Audiences can expect a deep exploration of complex rhythms, melodic narratives and Mashiloane’s emotive connection to the concept of home – an idea central to his work as both a performer and academic. Accompanied by a stellar line-up of South African jazz talents, these concerts promise to be thought-provoking and soul-stirring,” says Mash.
The Cape Town line-up includes Justin Bellairs on alto saxophone and Nick Ford on bass guitar. The Durban line-up will include Riley Giandhari on drums, Qhubekani Mthethwa on bass, Thabo Sikhakhane on trumpet, Leon Scharnick on alto saxophone and legendary percussionist Tlale Makhene.
Tickets for the Cape Town (08:00) and Durban (16:00) offerings are available at Quicket and Webtickets or you can purchase tickets at the door. The Chairman is a bar located on 146 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Point area, Durban CBD.
