Two alleged drug dealers nabbed in Umbilo, Point

Durban Metro police's continued operation to crack down on drug dealings in various parts of the city, has resulted in the arrest of two alleged drug traders in Umbilo and Point area.

ON Friday, Durban Metro Police nabbed two suspects in connection with drug possession with the intention to sell. The two suspects, an undocumented foreign national and a South African woman, remain in police custody.

The drug bust operation was led by Metro Police and the SAPS’ EITT Operation.

Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu shared, “The multi-disciplinary operation continues to disrupt the illegal drug trade through focused operations and intelligence-led policing in the city.

“On Friday a female suspect, aged 32, was arrested during the EITT operation in the Umbilo policing area, and was charged with dealing/possession of suspected crystal meth (23 packets, 14.3g), dealing/possession of suspected rock cocaine (15 pieces, 0.8g) and possession of suspected proceeds of crime (R300). The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately R16 000.
“The Durban Metro Police Service remains committed to protecting communities from the dangers of narcotics and will continue to clamp down on drug-related crime,” Zungu added.

On the same day, the operation yielded another arrest where an undocumented Nigerian man was nabbed in Point.
“The suspect was found in possession of an assortment of drugs. He was arrested and charged with dealing and possession of suspected heroin (6 x stones, 1.1g), and for being an undocumented person. Added to his charge sheet was possession of suspected proceeds of crime,” said Zungu.
He confirmed that all exhibits and the suspects were booked in custody, “The Metro Police remains committed to ridding our communities of drug-related crimes through strategic intelligence-led operations.”
