Aftermath of strong winds sparks high volume of electricity faults
As communities work through the aftermath of damaging winds, the City is working overtime to restore electricity. Fallen poles, trees falling onto power lines, vegetation encroachments, blown roof sheets, and other foreign objects entangled in power lines contributed to the numerous outages.
THE City of eThekwini’s Electricity Unit is attending to a high volume of electricity faults after the strong winds on Tuesday caused widespread damage to infrastructure and interrupted power in several areas.
“Teams have been working around the clock, and fault restoration efforts continued through the night. While substantial progress has been made, the sheer number of faults means that restoration times will be longer than usual. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding during this time,” the City said in a statement.

Residents are encouraged to report outages via the City’s digital fault reporting platforms.
