Florida Road bustling with opportunities

Florida Road’s unique blend of entertainment, lifestyle offerings, and community charm is creating a buzz. The Florida Road UIP aims to spread its reach to draw in more foot traffic by hosting a variety of events, including a wellness day, prayer sessions, kids activities, and a chess tournament on July 20.

THE organisers of the Florida Road market have hailed the success of the community initiative for bringing in more foot traffic to the bustling area of Durban.

Having changed from hosting the market on the first Thursday of every month to the Sunday, made the market more popular with residents and visitors alike. Jessie Shane, Florida Road UIP PR and marketing manager, said the market is now hosted twice a month on the first and last Sunday, with new market features and live music drawing in the crowds.

She said, “The Florida Road UIP has teamed up with local eateries to offer roaming waiters. You can order your favourite dish without leaving the market lawn.” Shane said that innovation like these have made Florida Road popular, leading to more stalls and activities being added.

“There’s plenty for the little ones too, including free kids’ activities like painting, foam clay sculpting, bubbles, and more. For those wanting something extra, activities like bracelet-making and sand art are also on offer.

“Stalls showcase everything from handmade leather goods and beaded bags to candles, permanent jewellery, and natural wellness products. With a perfect mix of quality and affordability, the Florida Road Market truly caters to everyone,” she added.

Market hours are 10:30 to 15:30. There are a number of activities coming up over the holidays, including kids’ activities. On Saturday, July 19, there will be a wellness event from 07:00 to 09:00 which will be followed by a chess tournament on Sunday, July 20.
