Hollywoodbets Durban 10km date change

The date for the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km race has moved as well as the race pack collection date. The popular race will be run on Saturday, August 30.

THE much-anticipated Hollywoodbets Durban 10km race has undergone a sudden date change, with organisers confirming that the event will now take place one day earlier than originally planned.

The race was previously scheduled for Sunday, August 31, and is now set for Saturday, August 30.  The organising committee shared that “circumstances beyond our control” necessitated the date adjustment. Jason Dewey from Hollywood Athletics Club said the decision to move the major event was not taken lightly, but based on the priority to ensure the safety, support, and enjoyment of every runner and spectator.

“We know this change may impact some of your plans, and we’re truly sorry for any inconvenience it may cause. Please know that this decision wasn’t made lightly. Our top priority is to deliver a safe, well-supported and memorable race experience for everyone – and this change is the best way to ensure just that,” said Dewey.

The fifth edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km/ 5km was launched earlier this month. During the launch, Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium was confirmed as the new finish and start venue for the event, with SABC to broadcast the race.

Brett Goodwin, Hollywoodbets Athletics Club manager, said that they are hoping for a field of 10 000 runners for Durban’s fastest race route. He said, “We always make sure that our runners, elite and social, are taken care of, from the goodie bag to the entertainment. Runners must have a fantastic experience, from the smooth registration process to the point when they cross the finish line and put the medal around their neck.”

He confirmed that elite and social runners are in for a treat on Saturday with top 10 finishers to receive cash prizes ranging from R6000 to R37 500. Race pack collection at Suncoast has been updated to Wednesday, August 27, 10:00 to 18:00, Thursday, August 28, from 10:00 to 18:00, Friday, August 29, from10:00 to 16:00.
