Fashion show to unleash next generation of runway icons

The 14th Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent of both fashion designers and models. The current intake includes 24 participants of which 10 are standard-size female models, 10 male models, and four plus-size female models.

THE 14th Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) at the Durban Exhibition Centre from September 17 to 19 promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent of both fashion designers and models.

“Central to this initiative is the DFF Class of 2025 Model Training and Bootcamp, which is currently in full swing. This programme, part of the broader eThekwini Municipality Fashion Development Programme, aims to develop the fashion sector as a vital driver of economic growth and job creation,” said eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana.

The selection process began with open casting events held across eThekwini in June, and the 24 finalists are undergoing intensive training, which covers runway techniques, posing, model etiquette, and fitness guidance.

Councillor Thembo Ntuli, chairperson of the city’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, said, “Every sector matters as long as it contributes to job creation, especially among the youth. This is one of the key reasons we invest in such programmes, to create a pipeline of world-class talent and to promote financial independence.”

Since its inception 13 years ago, the DFF Model Programme has reportedly trained over 300 models, many of whom are said to be successful professionals signed to top agencies and participating in major fashion events, including New York and Paris Fashion Weeks.

The DFF Recognition Awards, taking place on September 26, will conclude this year’s showcase.
