Durban High Court sets trial dates for Zuma-Sambudla and AKA murder accused

Two major cases are officially trial-ready as the Durban High Court confirms dates for Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s terrorism incitement case and the murder trial of rapper AKA and his friend Tibz.

IN A busy week for the Durban High Court, the dates for two high profile cases were set for later this year and next year after the matters were found ready to be heard before a judge.

Last Thursday, the High Court heard from the State prosecutor and lawyers representing terrorism accused Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, confirming that they were ready to go to trial. Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter found herself in hot water following her comments on social media in relation to the July 2021 civil unrest and public violence where she tweeted, “We See You” on X.

She made her first appearance in court earlier this year after handing herself in. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said Zuma-Sambudla faces charges of incitement to commit terrorism, and two counts of incitement to commit public violence. “The Judge certified the matter trial-ready. The case was postponed for the trial, which will be held at the Durban High Court from November 10 to 21, 2025,” said Ramkisson-Kara.

A day prior, on Wednesday, the Durban High Court had heard on the readiness to prosecute the five men arrested in connection with the murder of Kiernan Jarred Forbes (AKA) and Tebello Motsoane (Tibz). Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi (30), Lindani Zenzele Ndimande (35), Siyanda Eddie Myeza (21), Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni (36) and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande (29) appeared on several charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder and firearm and ammunition-related charges.

In February 2023, Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed outside a restaurant on Florida Road, just outside the Durban CBD. Ramkisson-Kara said that the case was postponed to June 19, 2026, to allow for the parties to address further pre-trial issues and for the appointment of a trial judge.

“The trial dates are 20 July to 21 August 2026 and 5 October to 6 November 2026,” added Ramkisson-Kara.
