DURBAN’S Boxer Super Run is gearing up for its biggest event yet with organisers confirming the race capacity has increased by 2000 participants.

The popular 5km event will see up to 7000 runners and walkers when it returns to the city on Sunday, October 18, with entries officially opening on Thursday, August 6.

Stillwater Sports managing director Michael Meyer said the additional entries will allow even more people to experience the event.

“The response to the Boxer Super Run Durban has been phenomenal, and increasing our capacity from 5000 to 7000 participants is a direct reflection of the event’s growing popularity,” said Meyer.

“We’re excited to welcome even more runners, walkers, families and fitness enthusiasts to experience the incredible atmosphere that makes this event so special. We encourage everyone to secure their entry early, as we expect demand to be high.”

Since its launch in 2023, the Boxer Super Run has rapidly grown into one of South Africa’s most popular mass participation road running events, attracting everyone from elite athletes and club runners to families, walkers and first-time participants.

Boxer Superstores head of marketing Lee-Ann Pillay said the retailer remained committed to promoting healthier, more active communities through the event by helping to keep the race affordable and accessible to as many people as possible.

“Seeing the event grow to accommodate 7000 participants is incredibly exciting and we’re proud to continue creating an experience that is accessible, inclusive and fun for everyone,” said Pillay.

The 5km event will start on Snell Parade near Blue Lagoon Park before finishing at Blue Lagoon Park.

Participants can choose from several start waves, including an open wave for runners of all abilities, a Super Social Wave for groups, charities and those wanting a more relaxed experience, as well as elite women’s and men’s races.

Entries cost R100 and are open to anyone aged nine years and older and closes on Monday, October 12, or once the 7000-entry capacity has been reached.
