Clifton gears up for 20th National Schoolboy Water Polo splash

The biggest schoolboy water polo event in SA is making a splash in Durban as Clifton hosts the 20th National Schoolboy Water Polo Tournament from September 24 to 28, featuring 16 of the country's top teams, epic matches, a fan park, food stalls, and the Boks v Argentina on five jumbo screens.

CLIFTON in Durban is making waves this month as the Morningside-based school prepares to host the 20th edition of the National Schoolboy Water Polo Tournament from September 24 to 28.

Sixteen of South Africa’s top high school teams will be part of the tournament at the Clifton Aquatic Centre. Pierre le Roux, tournament director and director of Water Polo at Clifton, said the tournament has grown, bringing together the country’s most promising young athletes for a week of elite water polo, school spirit, and unforgettable memories.

“We are proud of the fact this event has grown into a true national spectacle,” said Le Roux, who is also South Africa’s most capped water polo player. “It’s where the best young water polo talent in South Africa comes together, and it has become the event for anyone who wants to see the sport at its highest schoolboy level.”

The tournament is being billed as more than just water polo. It is one of the best viewing stadiums in the country, and it promises to be a festival of sport and community. Visitors and spectators can expect a vibrant entertainment programme, a wide variety of food stalls, and a fan park atmosphere on Saturday, September 27, with five jumbo screens airing the Springboks v Argentina rugby clash.

With free entry, dedicated U18 and Over-18 zones, and all matches live-streamed via SuperSport Schools, the event is set to be a family-friendly sports festival for locals and visitors alike. A formal welcome dinner will take place on Wednesday, September 24, with the closing ceremony scheduled for Sunday at 14:00.
