Gregory Porter live at the ICC
Fans of GRAMMY® Award-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter are in for a treat on Saturday, November 15, when he performs live at the Durban ICC from 20:00, as part of his Love is King South African concert tour.
According to the organisers, Showtime Management and GRIZA Enterprise, the Take Me to the Alley singer has long dreamed of visiting Durban.
“He’s heard about the rhythm, the ocean, the people, and the energy that make Durban so unique. Now it’s your turn to give this eight-time nominee and two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning jazz icon the warm welcome he’s been waiting for,” said the organisers.
Porter’s other shows will be in Cape Town and Johannesburg. When he performs in Durban, Porter is expected belt out some of his biggest hits which may include Illusion, On my way to Harlem, and No love dying.

Rhumbelow to come alive with The Sound of Music

“What is the first thing you associate with nuns, refugees and great music – the Denis Hurley Centre! What is the second? The Sound of Music!” says DHC Director, Dr Raymond Perrier.
The iconic Rogers and Hammerstein musical, The Sound of Music, is coming to the Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo on Sunday, November 16, from 14:30. Hosted by the Denis Hurley Centre as part of a fundraising initiative, audience members are invited to come dressed up and to sing along to the iconic hits from the musical.
Audience members can expect to hear crowd favourites including Maria, My Favourite Things, Do Re Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Sound of Music, So Long Farewell, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and Edelweiss. The Sound of Music turns 60 this year, having been launched in 1965, making it the perfect time and setting to host such a fundraiser.

Mostly Beethoven concert series

To celebrate the recent refurbishment of UKZN’s Howard College Steinway concert grand piano, Durban concert pianist Andrew Warburton will host a concert series entitled Mostly Beethoven from November 15 to 30.
The five concerts will include solo piano recitals, violin and piano recitals, and will feature the acclaimed eThekwini Trio, who have just returned from a nationwide tour. Kicking things off on Saturday at 19:00, Warburton will be on piano for Beethoven’s Appassionata Sonata Op.57; Schumann’s Sonata no 2; Debussy’s Estampes; and Prokofiev’s Sonata no 3.
The next show on Tuesday at 19:00, will feature 17-year-old Aran Singh on piano. He’ll be playing virtuoso piano pieces by Scriabin, Schumann, and Liszt and the youthful Sonata Op 14 no 1 by Beethoven.

Rock out to The Beatles

On Saturday, November 15, join ‘Barry Thomson & The Reals’ as they pay an authentic tribute to Liverpool’s most famous pop group of all time, The Beatles, at Rhumbelow Northlands Bowling Club.
The show, which begins at 19:30, features frontman Barry Thomson (guitar/vocals), Dawn Selby (keyboards/vocals), Mali Sewell (drums/vocals), Robz Millar (bass guitar/vocals) and Shaun Dragt (guitar/vocals).
In the seven-year lifespan of the Fab Four, better known as ‘The Beatles’, they achieved phenomenal success, holding the record of having the most number one hit songs (20). They hold the record for most number-one albums (19) and the most singles sold in the UK, 21.1 million. By 1985, they were the best-selling band in history, with estimated total sales of over one billion records worldwide.

Music up the Hill with Jeremy Loops

Jeremy Loops will be live at Fig Tree Farm on Sunday, November 16, from 12:00 to 18:00.
If you are a Loops fan, this is your opportunity to share a beautiful day of food and music with your loved ones. Picnic blankets are allowed as well as camp chairs. However, no own food or drink, umbrellas, dogs, and firearms may be brought into the venue.

2025 Great Outdoors Expo

Wouldn’t it be Loverly
The Decorative Arts Society’s presentation on Wouldn’t it be Loverly on the triumphs and trials of is year’s fabulous production of My Fair Lady by Kickstart co-founder Greg King takes place on Tuesday, November 18 from 12:30 to 13:30 at the Visitors’ Centre, Durban Botanic Gardens.
The fee is R50 for members and R80 for visitors. Special festive season refreshments will be served after the lecture.

Playhouse honours cultural heroes
The Playhouse in Durban is gearing up to celebrate South Africa’s cultural heroes and spiritual artistry, showcasing dynamic gospel and traditional performances at the Amaqhawe Esizwe Music Festival on Saturday.
The line-up includes Bahubhe, Amayellowbone, Solwazi, Gadla Nxumalo, and more. The event recognises local and international SA representatives introduced to His Majesty the King and the SA State President, embodying the spirit of unity and excellence through music.
