Ride takes off for new Durban amusement park

The R1b Durban Amusement Park on the beachfront will start construction early next year, and is set for opening in 2027.

TO keep nostalgia alive, Masithu Consulting and Project Management has been announced as the favoured bidder to revitalise the derelict Durban Funworld, which had its lifeline cut in 2023.

The Durban Amusement Park is tipped to be on par with its global counterparts, as it has the backing of collaboration with international amusement park developers.

Masithu reported that it has 17 years of experience in these kinds of projects, and is excited to be part of writing Durban’s history.

eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba highlighted today that selecting a 100% black-owned company for the job was part of a bigger plan to advance historically disadvantaged developers.

“More importantly, the project will secure 900 jobs during construction, and 500 permanent appointments thereafter,” Xaba said. He emphasised that the project is at no cost to the municipality or ratepayers. “The good news is that the world-class amusement will be fully funded by investors, and at no cost to the municipality or ratepayers.”
