Glenwood and Bulwer residents meet mayor to address concerns

The Glenwood/Bulwer Ratepayers & Residents Association met with Mayor Cyril Xaba to discuss community challenges and future collaboration.

LAST year, the Glenwood/Bulwer Ratepayers & Residents Association (GBRRA) wrote to the City mayor, seeking engagement to lay out challenges affecting the Glenwood and Bulwer area and possible solutions. The meeting finally took place on Wednesday (January 21).

The association has developed several innovative solutions, including recruiting volunteers to clean public spaces and using technology to monitor service delivery. Mayor Cyril Xaba commended the association for being proactive in keeping the area clean.

GBRRA chairperson Heather Roos was grateful for the engagement. “We had a very productive meeting with the mayor. We raised certain concerns that residents of Glenwood are facing, such as the whoonga addicts under the bridge, as well as other concerns.

“We did a presentation with photos of all the work we have done and are currently doing to uplift the area. We also presented future projects and ideas that we are hoping to undertake. The mayor got a view of different partnerships that we have formed and how well we are working with the majority of security companies in our community, as well as with Umbilo SAPS and the Durban Metro Police,” shared Roos.

The mayor expressed how pleased he was with the ground covered in Glenwood.

“We look forward to future meetings and working together with the mayor and his team,” Roos concluded.

The Office of the Mayor assured that follow-up engagements would be held with the association to explore areas of collaboration.
