Man bust for alleged distribution of drugs in Point

Durban Metro Police arrested a suspect in the Point area, uncovering a key source of heroin distribution in the CBD and South Beach.

THE Durban Metro Police Service operation uncovered one of the sources of drug distribution in and around South Beach and the CBD at large over the weekend.

Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu explained, “The Durban Metro Police Service Drug Team conducted a successful intelligence-driven operation in the Point area, targeting the distribution of illegal drugs within the CBD and surrounding areas. During the operation, a foreign national (Tanzanian) was apprehended and charged with possession of heroin. The suspect was detained at Point SAPS in line with prescribed procedures.

Point CPF chairperson Mandla Cebekhulu commended the police for the much-needed effort. “As the community and the CPF in Point, we are encouraged by such operations.  Drug peddlers in South Beach will soon have nowhere to hide. Drug users will soon realise that this area is running short of drugs. These operations will also assist those who are hooked on drugs and have been battling to stop; once the dealers are weeded out their journey to sobriety maybe easier,” said Cebekhulu.

He added that their wish was to have more frequent operations, for this will restore hope to residents, and trust  in police will be rebuilt.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week.
