Man killed in cherry picker accident

A cherry picker driver has died outside a popular shopping centre on Peter Mokaba Road following a freak accident.

JUST after 17:00 on Wednesday afternoon emergency services responded to an incident on Peter Mokaba Road outside a popular shopping mall.

According to ALS Paramedics’  Garrith Jamieson they  arrived on scene to find that a cherry picker, whilst being offloaded, somehow overturned and ejected the driver.

“Paramedics assessed the man believed to be in his thirties, however he had sustained major fatal injuries and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” Jamieson said.

The exact events leading up to this incident are unknown and SAPS will be investigating further.
