Caving pavement poses injury to elderly on Windmill Road
Walking along the damaged pavements of Windmill Road in Musgrave has become a nightmare, as residents say they fear injuries, especially for the elderly.
A concerned resident in Musgrave has lamented the eThekwini Municipality’s non-action in attending to an “accident waiting to happen” on Windmill Road.
According to the resident, Arnold Bates, last year a busy pavement showed signs of erosion, posing a danger to walkers, joggers, and the elderly.
“The pavement was repaired, and it wasn’t long until it caved in again, and this time, showing greater damage.

“Strollers and the elderly find it difficult to access the other side of the road. It’s a glaring hazard that may cause ankle or hip injury to the elderly walking with walking sticks and frames. The complaint was sent, but there has been no will to rectify the situation,” Bates said.
He reckons the problem is worsening, and fears a ticking time bomb. It has been four months of grave danger, he said. Bates suspects shoddy work was done when the first repairs were done, otherwise “the pavement would still be intact”. “My immediate plea to the municipality is to send inspectors and get the pavement repaired properly as soon as possible,” he concluded.
