Currie Road site faces by-law heat after Metro Police intervention
DMPS are monitoring a Currie Road construction site following safety complaints and alleged damage to municipal property.
RESIDENTS and motorists have welcomed the crackdown by Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS) and the strict enforcement of the city’s by-laws that were recently witnessed at a property on Currie Road.
DMPS Colonel Boysie Zungu said the Metro Police Strike Team was responding to a complaint regarding construction activities taking place without proper safety measures at Currie Road.
“Upon arrival, members engaged with an individual on site who identified himself as the builder,” said Zungu.

“Officers addressed concerns relating to the lack of visible safety signage and the alleged damage to municipal property, including the sidewalk. The matter was explained, and the responsible parties were advised accordingly.”
The builder also provided law enforcement with the details of the site manager for further engagement. Zungu said further engagement will be conducted with the site manager to ensure that all construction activities comply with municipal by-laws and safety regulations.
“DMPS will continue to monitor the site and take the necessary steps to ensure compliance. The public is encouraged to report any unsafe or non-compliant construction activities,” he added.
