Freeway robbery suspects killed in shoot-out with police
Two men allegedly behind armed M19 and N2 robberies were killed in a police shoot-out in the early hours of the morning in Sydenham.
TWO wanted armed robbery suspects were gunned down in the early hours of Friday morning, April 24, during a shoot-out with police at Kennedy Road informal settlement in Sydenham.
The suspects were wanted in connection with armed robberies along the N2 and M19 freeways, where they allegedly targeted motorists during breakdowns.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said they were tracked down to their hiding place at the informal settlement following the arrest of their alleged accomplice.

He said, “On Thursday, April 23, one suspect was arrested for an armed robbery case. Follow-up investigations led the police to a shack at Kennedy Road informal settlement where two wanted suspects were hiding.”
During the operation, a shoot-out ensued between the police and the suspects. “Two suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the shoot-out. Two firearms were found in their possession,” said Netshiunda.
He added that no police officer was injured during the shoot-out.
