Murder case opened after assaulted man’s body found in Greyville

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 37-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in Greyville on Monday morning.

POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a 37-year-old was allegedly beaten to death in Greyville this morning (July 13).

The body of a man was discovered behind the Durban Bowling Club in Greyville Park by members of Ensure together with eThekwini Law Enforcement officials, at about 09:30 while conducting operations in the area.

Brendan Bubb of Ensure Security said the man was found unresponsive and showed no signs of life. He said Ensure Security Command Centre immediately dispatched the South African Police Service (SAPS) and ambulance services to the scene.

“The area was cordoned off to the public to preserve the integrity of the scene. The matter was formally handed over to SAPS for investigation.”

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, however, there were reports that the victim could have been beaten as he had suffered injuries to his head and chest.

The suspicions were also confirmed by KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

“Police in Durban Central have opened a murder case following an incident in which a 37-year-old man was allegedly beaten by a group of unknown men on 13 July 2026 at First Avenue, he succumbed to his injuries.”

She added, “The motive for the killing is unknown.”
