Child critically injured in 20m Davenport apartment fall

A nine-year-old boy was critically injured after falling from a second-floor apartment in Durban's Davenport area on Tuesday morning.

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy is fighting for his life in hospital after falling from a second-floor of a Davenport flat this morning (July 14).

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency services received multiple calls shortly before 11:30 reporting that a child had fallen from an apartment building in Helen Joseph Road.

“When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found chaos as they found a young boy approximately nine years of age who had fallen approximately 20 metres being attended to by Metro Police Search and Rescue,” he said.

The child sustained multiple critical injuries in the fall.

“Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the child on scene before rushing him through to a nearby specialist hospital for the further care that he required,” Jamieson added.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Police are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the child falling from the apartment building.

“At this stage the exact events leading up to the incident is unknown, however, SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further,” said Jamieson.

The police had yet to comment at the time of publication.
