Durban ICC will host the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government from 16-18 August, and heightened security operations have been activated across Durban to ensure a safe and secure environment for Heads of State, delegates, residents and visitors.

“The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) is fully prepared for the Summit, the South African Police Service (SAPS), together with various law enforcement, intelligence and emergency services, are working in close collaboration to ensure the successful hosting of this important prestigious event,” said SAPS.

South Africa is set to welcome 12 Heads of State and Government, together with delegations from across the Southern African Development Community.

Speaking during a media briefing, the SAPS Deputy National Commissioner for Policing and NATJOINTS chairperson, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, reaffirmed the country’s state of readiness.

“Comprehensive security plans have already been activated. All law enforcement, intelligence and emergency services are working together to ensure the successful hosting of this important regional event.”

The deployment is visible across Durban, from the airport and major highways, to Summit venues and other key areas, with the SAPS, SANDF, Durban Metro Police, traffic law enforcement officials, the National Traffic Police , National Airport Security and private security personnel deployed.
