Lira’s emotional return steals the show on Women’s Day

Music, celebration and an emotional comeback took centre stage as Lira and Nomfundo Moh starred at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert.

FROM free relaxing massages to energising performances by Lira and Nomfundo Moh, the Women’s Day Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert had something for everyone on Sunday.

Celebrating womanhood, the concert attracted thousands of music lovers from all walks of life who enjoyed the picnic-style concert at the Durban Botanic Gardens. To make the day extra special, stalls offered free massages, and rose and boba drinks to concertgoers.

Shining on stage like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy Sunday afternoon, Nomfundo Moh opened the show with some of her biggest hits, including UyangijabulisaPhakade Lami and Soft Life, which had the crowd singing and dancing along.

After briefly leaving the stage following her electrifying performance, Moh returned to a crowd calling for more from the Afro-soul singer. “Apparently, I still have more time and you want more,” said Nomfundo to a delighted crowd.

Her performance was followed by ECR’s J Sbu, who was accompanied on stage by his Drive Time co-host, Stacey. Together, they had everyone on their feet and moving before Lira took to the stage.

The minute Lira and her band took to the stage, there was no holding the crowd back as fans surged forward, moving closer to the stage. Setting the stage on fire with her high-energy performance, Lira belted out crowd favourites such as HambaSomething Inside So Strong and Rise Again.

Her outstanding performance earned a standing ovation from the crowd, who were inspired by her courageous return to live performance. A tearful Lira thanked everyone for their support as she continues her recovery journey following a stroke.

“I am trying and will not give up,” said Lira, who also performed her latest hit Do Me.

The song, featuring international artist Chase Bell, was released in late March, marking her first release in 10 years.
