VIDEO: Armed gang storm Overport store

In the video, a suspect is seen hitting a man to the ground before kicking him repeatedly.

A VIDEO circulating on social media shows what appears to be an armed robbery captured by CCTV cameras.

The video racked up more than 2 500 views and more than 40 shares within six hours of being posted on Facebook.

Speaking to Berea Mail, Captian Muzi Maphumulo, spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS confirmed that an armed robbery took place on Felix Dlamini (Brickfield) Road on Thursday, September 22 at about 10:10.

“There were 13 suspects who stormed in, armed with firearms, and robbed the staff of cellphones and cash of R15 000. A case of robbery is being investigated by Mayville SAPS. No arrests have been made at this stage,” said Maphumulo.

eThekwini Central Cluster chairperson, Imtiaz Syed, confirmed that the video circulating on social media depicted the robbery on Felix Dlamini Road.

In the video, a suspect is seen hitting a man to the ground before kicking him repeatedly.

“I believe it was the store owner at the entrance of the store who tried to stop the suspects. He was beaten quite badly. He was hit with the butt of a gun and kicked,” said Syed.

“Anyone who has any information regarding this incident or the suspects should please call the SAPS emergency toll free number 086 0010111,” said Maphumulo.
