Parent calls attention to park neglect
Glenwood resident Barry Young says he is not the only resident who is fed up with the state of Bulwer Park, and many residents feel something should be done to get the park back to being a safe environment for all residents.
GLENWOOD resident Barry Young is appealing to the municipality to address the state of Bulwer Park. Young says the park is severely neglected, and although the father of two lives near the park, he says he doesn’t feel comfortable taking his children to the park for recreational purposes.
“I’ve been a Glenwood resident for 14 years, and year after year, I’ve seen this park get worse. The grass around the perimeter of the park is semi-regularly tended to, but within the park, the grass is unkempt. There is an outdoor gym that was built in the park quite a few years back, but the equipment is not maintained, and the area has become an eyesore.”

Young says there are several broken streetlights in the park, making visibility after dark for residents, who are living in properties around the park, poor. “I live near the park, and there have been several muggings and criminal activity in the vicinity of Bulwer Park,” said Young. Some streetlights located around the park have been dug up, and the copper wire inside of the poles has been removed.

“Every time I walk past the park, I see another streetlight has been dug up or is in the process of being fully removed – you can actually see wire sticking out of the ground after it has been cut and stripped,” said Young. Young says he is not the only resident who is fed up with the state of Bulwer Park, and many residents feel something should be done to get the park back to being a safe environment for all residents.
