Music fans gear up for special event
Calling all musicians - compare notes, sell, swap and buy at MusicGearFair.
IT is just under a week to go until the #MusicGearFair, a unique market that offers musicians the chance to trade their preloved instruments and enjoy a morning of mingling with other music lovers.
The market takes place on the public holiday, Tuesday, March 21, from 10:00 until 14:00 at Rhumbelow Shellhole.
One of the event organisers, Mark Hunt, said musicians can sell or swap their unwanted, pre-used gear.
“This is an opportunity for musicians to offload their unwanted previously loved musical items. We’d like to think this is a forum for local musicians and friends to get together and compare notes, sell, swap and buy,” he said.

Hunt added that he and fellow band member Dave Wright got the idea to start the market after performing at various events, including open-mike nights and while taking note of the musicians attending.
“Often the musicians at these events get together and talk. This market provides another forum for musicians to talk and trade gear – the selling [of items] is incidental – there might even be swapping of instruments instead,” he said.
While the market is sure to appeal to musicians, it may intrigue music lovers, as well.

“Anyone can join – anyone who is interested in music and musical instruments,” said Hunt. “There are people who sell vinyl records, and there are some very good originals. We also have some guys selling record players. There will be amps, drums, keyboards and guitars,” he said.
“We still have a few tables available if any musicians would like to get on board,” concluded Hunt.
The Rhumbelow Shellhole is located at 42 Cunningham Road in Umbilo. There will be food and drink on sale at the market, including a well-stocked bar.
