Learning opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs

Innovate Durban is offering young creative entrepreneurs an opportunity to grow their businesses by learning from Lauren Barkume, training director at Aid to Artisans.

LOCAL non-profit organisation Innovate Durban is offering young creative entrepreneurs an opportunity to grow their business by learning from Lauren Barkume, training director at Aid to Artisans. Lauren Barkume is an expert in creative entrepreneurship and international retail.

For the past 16 years, she has worked directly with entrepreneurs, artisans and small businesses, designing and running practical workshops for small business owners in the US, internationally and in Southern Africa. In 2021, she launched Artisan Business Lab, an online learning platform powered by Aid to Artisans for global creative entrepreneurs.

In 2022, she developed an in-depth online course called Artisan Costing and Pricing, and she regularly speaks to entrepreneurs in the creative industry on a variety of topics related to export and the international retail sector. Lauren’s visit to South Africa is sponsored by the US Embassy.

Lauren will be speaking at Umkhumbane Entrepreneurial Support Centre, located at 240 Harry Gwala Road on Tuesday, April 4, from 14:00 to 16:00.

Barkume will be discussing topics such as:

  • Post-Covid US Market Trends and Structure of the Market
  • Understanding Export Distribution Channels
  • Understanding Universal Market Demands
  • Building Buyer Relationships
