Berea Bowling Club celebrates 110 years

Berea Bowling Club members and their families attended a competition at the local club on Friday, June 16, to commemorate the bowling club that has brought together bowls enthusiasts in the Berea area for 110 years.

THE Berea Bowling Club (BBC) was established in 1913 by the Durban Caledonian Society, more than a century ago, and on Friday, June 16, the local club hosted a competition celebrating 110 years on the greens.

Berea Bowling Club members and their families attended the competition on Friday to commemorate the bowling club that has brought together bowls enthusiasts in the Berea area for 110 years.

With several events hosted on a weekly basis, the Berea Bowling Club currently has 65 bowling members and 55 registered social members.

In addition to this, the Berea Bowling Club hosts the SPAR Competition on the last Thursday of every month and drawn trips on the last Sunday of every month, and the club also caters for the visually impaired.

The club hosts blind bowlers every Sunday afternoon, with some dedicated club bowlers providing help and guidance. Berea Bowling Club also hosts social events, such as live music on Fridays and the hiring of the hall for functions.

It’s safe to say that the Berea Bowling Club is a major part of the Berea community and will continue to promote comradery and social relationships between residents for years to come.
