Suspect nabbed with R18 000 worth of drugs in the Point

The suspect was found in possession of 117 packets of methcathinone.

ON TUESDAY, officers from the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit arrested a suspect for being in possession of illicit drugs worth an estimated street value of R18 000.

The arrest was made in the Point area of the Durban CBD.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the suspect was found in possession of 117 packets of methcathinone.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing charges of illegal possession and dealing in drugs.

The arrest follows a similar drug bust two weeks ago, also in the Point area, where a 39-year-old suspect was arrested for being in possession of more than R100 000 worth of drugs on Gillespie Street.

In another success, police from the unit also recovered suspected stolen goods worth an estimated R20 000 just hours after the drug arrest.

“While continuing with routine crime-prevention duties, the team also recovered electronic items, inclusive of computers, CD drives and keyboards, valued at approximately R20 000. The suspected stolen goods were found abandoned in the Durban CBD. Investigations into how the goods ended up on the street and the possible suspects are underway,” Nethiunda said.
