Another fatal shooting in Berea

A security guard was attacked and shot multiple times on the corner of Brickfield Road and Jan Smuts Highway.

A SECURITY guard was fatally shot in the early hours of this morning while on shift.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, just after 04:00 this morning, ALS Paramedics responded to a security officer who had been attacked and shot multiple times on the corner of Brickfield Road and Jan Smuts Highway.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene to find SAPS at the scene. The security officer, believed to be in his thirties, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was in a critical condition, and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man before rushing him through to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required,” said Jamieson.

Unfortunately, a short while after arriving at the hospital, the security officer went into a state of cardiac arrest and passed away due to the injuries sustained.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however, SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further,” said Jamieson.
