Security guard critically injured in alleged CIT robbery in Durban

The events leading up to the shooting are unclear but it is believed the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

A SECURITY guard is in a critical condition after an alleged cash in transit (CIT) robbery on Rick Turner Road on Thursday morning.

The guard, believed to be in thirties, sustained a gunshot wound to the head in the incident.

Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson said they responded to the incident just after 11:20.

“Paramedics received numerous calls of a shooting incident which had occurred in an alleged armed robbery involving a CIT van on Rick Turner Road. On arrival, paramedics found a male believed to be in his thirties who had sustained critical injuries as a result of a gunshot wound to his head. He was stablised on scene and rushed to a nearby hospital,” he said.

Jamieson added that at this stage the events leading up to the shooting are not clear.

It is believed the suspects managed to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
