Man nabbed with half a million rand worth of drugs

Police have arrested a 44-year-old foreign national who was found in possession of more than half a million rand worth of heroin and cocaine at a flat in Melbourne Road, Umbilo.

KWAZULU-NATAL police have arrested a 44-year-old foreign national in connection with a case of dealing drugs in Umbilo on Monday, August 19.

According to the SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, intelligence was gathered by police about suspected illegal activities that were happening at a flat on Melbourne Road, and with the court having granted a search warrant, a search-and-seizure operation was conducted.

“When the police pounced on the flat, the suspect was found in possession of heroin powder as well as bricks and broken full moons of rock cocaine. The recovered drugs are estimated to be worth a street value of just over half a million rand,” said Netshiunda.

The suspect is due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, on August 20, facing a charge of dealing drugs.
