Garrith Jamieson: A call for safety and family this holiday season

The ALS Paramedics team wishes the community safe and happy holidays.

AFTER another year of travelling the globe, reporting on accidents and promoting safety across the province, Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, is looking forward to spending time with his loved ones this holiday season.

But despite the busy period, he is on the ground with the rest of his colleagues, ensuring safety across the region.

“Though I am working throughout the holidays, I’m grateful that I can still spend quality time with my daughter. I also have a strong family support system, so when I’m working, she’s in good hands with my parents or partner.”

Heading the ALS Paramedics team, Jamieson plays a role in communicating important safety messages to motorists and reporting on incidents across Durban.

Being on the frontlines of emergencies, he’s especially aware of the risks that come with the festive season.

“The holidays are the busiest time of year for us, with public holidays being the peak,” he explained.

Safety is always a priority for Jamieson, and as a reminder to the community, he shared these five essential safety tips for the holidays:

  1. Don’t overload your vehicle, and make sure everyone has their seatbelt on.
  2. Adhere to the speed limit – it’s there for a reason.
  3. Keep windows up and valuables out of sight when driving.
  4. Supervise small children around swimming pools, and always keep pools covered when not in use.
  5. Be mindful of road conditions and other drivers – the holidays can be chaotic.

With these tips in mind, Jamieson wishes the Durban community a safe and joyful holiday season, and a safe return to the new year.
