Festive season safety crackdown in Pinetown

The Pinetown SAPS festive season operations are yielding positive results as arrests have already been made in the first two days of the campaign.

PINETOWN SAPS has launched an intensive visible policing campaign in an effort to ensure a safe and secure festive season.

‘Policing with Pride’ kicked off last Thursday, with the Vispol Component conducting stop-and-search operations, making arrests and engaging with shop owners to ensure necessary documentation.

On Friday, the Support Component joined forces, bolstering visibility and safety in patrol areas.

According to the station’s communications officer, Jennifer Naidu, the operation, led by Station Commander Brigadier Leon Matthysen, has already yielded positive results, with arrests made and a noticeable decrease in criminal activity.

“Our station commander has pledged to maintain increased patrols throughout the festive season, with additional personnel deployed to work with Crime Prevention and Sector Policing,” said Naidu.

Addressing his members, Matthysen said he would be going with the members to these operations, and he would also arrest the criminals and charge them himself.

Pinetown SAPS member Warrant Officer Slie Xulu said she was proud that their commander is on the ground with them during these operations.

“It is good for us as members; that’s the kind of leadership we need!”

In addition, Matthysen said the safety of the community is their top priority. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure a secure and enjoyable festive season for all.”

Pinetown SAPS urges residents to report any suspicious activity and to work together with the police to maintain a safe and secure environment.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
