N2 cash-in-transit robbery suspect fatally wounded in Glenwood police shootout
Police efforts yielded positive results when suspects linked to Tuesday's N2 cash-in-transit robbery were cornered in Glenwood later in the day. One suspect was fatally wounded and another injured. Police are in pursuit of more suspects.
A suspect who was being pursued by police in connection with a cash-in-transit robbery that happened on the N2 Highway southbound on the south coast of Durban on Tuesday morning was shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Glenwood.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda shared, “Police followed up information regarding the vehicles which were spotted fleeing from the cash-in-transit robbery crime scene. The identified vehicle was intercepted at an intersection in Glenwood and the suspects opened fire towards the police. Police retaliated and during the shootout, one suspect was shot and fatally wounded and the other one was rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries. No police officer was injured during the shootout.

It is reported that during the N2 robbery the suspects intercepted a cash-in transit vehicle, assaulted two security guards and robbed them of their firearms, before stealing an undisclosed amount of money.
“During the robbery, the suspects fired several shots and three bystanders were reportedly shot and injured. They then fled the scene through Bayview area, and on Silverglen Drive they shot and injured a private security guard who gave chase. The suspects allegedly shot towards a minibus taxi which they reportedly attempted to hijack. A woman was shot and died, another woman who was walking along the road was also shot and injured.
“Two suspects have also been positively linked with the triple murder case which happened at the Ntambanana policing precinct in January and another double murder case which was committed in June 2024 in the same area.”
With regards to the Tuesday morning cash-in-transit robbery, “another vehicle which was hijacked at KwaMakhutha area and used in the robbery has just been found abandoned in Mariannhill, with what looked to be money bags inside. The crime scene is yet to be properly processed.”
Police in KwaZulu-Natal are looking for more suspects following the cash-in-transit robbery on the N2.
