A theatrical show, markets and a free early morning weekend workout - Durban has a lot to offer this time of year.
DURBAN always delivers when it comes to stage productions, markets and sports events. Get out and enjoy some of the events listed below for this weekend.
Enjoy lighthearted comedy with theatre club (April 4, 5 & 6)
THE Westville Theatre Club is thrilled to present One Act Play Extravaganza 2025 that will run from April 4-6 and April 11-13.
It features six plays (three plays per group performance) all of which are 25-35 minutes long. The theme for this year’s extravaganza is lighthearted comedy so be sure to book your seats, bring your family and friends, food and drinks and enjoy loads of laughs.
The extravaganza will feature three original plays written and directed by two of the club’s members, two plays by Maya Olsen (Morning After Madness and Awkward Brunch) and one by Julian Correa (Flip of a Coin).
On Friday, April 4, Sunday, April 6 the three plays that will feature are Thee Final Dress Rehearsal, Awkward Brunch and Morning After Madness.
On Saturday, April 5 the other plays will feature, namely Flip of a Coin, 11:59 and George’s Miss(ed) Fortune.
Good to know
Doors open at 18:30 with curtains up at 19:00 for evening shows on Fridays and Saturdays, while for the Sunday matinées, doors open at 14:00 with curtains up at 14:30.
Bring your own food and drinks.
Tickets cost R100 per person per group performance (R80 for students and pensioners) and R150 per person for both group performances.

Market fun for all (Saturday, April 5)
THE next I Heart Market takes place on Saturday, April 5 from 09:00 until 14:00 at the Northlands Primary School, 20 Gleneagles Drive, Durban North.
The market is packed with local makers, yummy food, happy vibes, and unique finds you won’t get at the mall.
There will also be lots of Easter gifts and decor. The market is family-friendly and dog-friendly.

Enjoy free workout at the Pav (Saturday, April 5)
START your fitness journey at The Pavilion Shopping Centre’s early morning Rooftop Fitness Session on Saturday, April 5 in the company of three top trainers each hosting a session of their specialist routines.
The Pavilion Shopping Centre and Virgin Active are jointly hosting their third free early morning weekend workout from 07:00 until 10.30.
The sessions will consist of three open 45-minute sessions taking place outside Tiger’s Milk on the Pavilion rooftop.

Fresh produce market (Sunday, April 6)
THE team from Macnut Farm in Lello Road, Assagay, hosts a Sunday Fresh Produce Market from 11:00 to 14:00 for locals to buy and sell homegrown produce in picture-perfect surroundings. Jazz show hits the right notes (Wednesday, April 9)
Spha Mdlalose is taking the music home on Wednesday, April 9.
The Durban-born artist is gearing up for an electric performance at the UKZN’s Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.
This will be the first time the artist performs the album with a full band in her home city, a place that Mdlalose says inspired the themes and stories of the debut offering. Ironically, the album’s title Idleleyekhaya translates to “The way home”.
Doors open at 17:00 and music starts at 17:30.
The show takes place at UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (Howard College Campus, Dennis Shepstone Building, Level 2). Tickets cost R130, R95 for pensioners and R65 for students. Online Tickets are available at Webtickets.

Bollywood spectacle at iZulu Theatre (Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13)
PREPARE for an unforgettable spectacle as Big Bollywood Musical 3 – The Rhythm of Chutney & Nagara takes centre stage at the Sibaya iZulu Theatre on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13.
The production promises to dazzle audiences with high-energy performances, breathtaking choreography, and a soul-stirring soundtrack celebrating the fusion of Bollywood rhythms with the vibrant beats of chutney and nagara.
The show features a star-studded cast, including Rahul Brijnath, Anesh Dusrath, Shiksha Singh and TikTok influencer Yuraysha, Raveen Singh.
Good to know
On Saturday, April 12, the shows start at 15:00 and 19:00 and Sunday, April 13 the show starts at 15:00.
Ticket prices start from R120 per person and are available via Ticketpro.
The show takes place at the iZulu Theatre, Sibaya Casino (1 Sibaya Drive).
