Valentine’s Day events in Durban include live music, ballet, comedy, jazz and dance shows across the city this weekend.

Take advantage of this month of love with an array of Valentine-themed events across Durban. Additionally, there is no shortage of other offerings to enjoy.

My Funny Valentine with Belinda Dolphin and Jaziel Vaugh’hann comes to the Rhumbelow Theatre, Cunningham Road, for one night only, on February 16. Cabaret aficionados or lovers of the old musical standards are invited. The show starts at 18:30. Tickets are available at Webtickets for R50.

Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert are back with a brand-new musical comedy — Bump and Grind — this Valentine’s weekend. The shows kick off on February 13 at 19:30, February 14 at 19:30, and February 15 at 14:00 at Rhumbelow Theatre.

Tickets cost R220, R200 for pensioners, and R180 for under 13. Tickets are available at Webtickets or via roland@stansell.co.za.

Mzansi Ballet presents Sean Bovim’s Private Presley – The Ballet at Milkwood Theatre, Danville Park Girls High, Durban North, from February 13 to 15. There is a special ticket offer on Valentine’s Date night – 50% discount for the 19:00 show on Valentine’s evening.

Celebrate love this Valentine’s Day with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra at an afternoon concert set in the tranquil surrounds of St Agnes Church, Kloof. The concert will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 16:30. Tickets from R100 are available via Quicket.

A Celebration of Love, conducted by Chad Hendricks, brings together lush orchestral music with romantic favourites, and two outstanding soloists, Njabulo Nzuza and Andile Ndlela, for an uplifting Valentine’s experience.

Storytelling through dance
KZN Dance Festival tells poignant stories of profound human emotion told through dance in a carefully curated one day free dance festival featuring collaborative work of eight KZN dance groups, which comes to the Stable Theatre on Saturday, February 21 at 14:00.

The groups are creating a dance story each. Predominantly the groups work with contemporary dance, although a myriad dance styles and traditions will be used in different ways, including hip hop and traditional. For more information contact call 067 942 8310 or email mandisandlovu1989@gmail.com.

A Decade of Laughter – Comedy Meets Gospel lands at playTSOGO Globe, Suncoast Casino on Valentine’s Day. Laughter and praise are under one roof as two of KwaZulu-Natal’s leading female artists come together for a one-of-a-kind live experience.

The event aims to celebrate 10 years of comedy by Nonto R. Sharing the stage with her is Xolly Mncwango, a South African Music Award-winning gospel artist and one of KZN’s most loved voices in gospel music. Tickets start from R250 and are available through Webtickets.

All that Jazz with Mash Trio

In the lead-up to his performance at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in March, pianist and composer Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane returns to the stage with his long-time collaborators Dalisu Ndlazi (bass) and Riley Giandhari (drums) for a performance as the Mash Trio at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music, UKZN on February 18.

The performance will also feature acclaimed saxophonist Sisonke Xonti as a guest artist.
The show starts at 17:30, and tickets are available via Webtickets from R70 to R130.
